She specializes in the neuropsychological assessment of adults and seniors (age 18+). She also has specialized training and experience internationally as an aeromedical specialist in clinical neuropsychology/ psychology for the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). Dr. Ammar is licensed in Illinois and Dubai sees patients at the Buffalo Grove and Orland Park locations. Clinical Work From 2006-2017 Dr. Ammar was the Chief Neuropsychologist of Geriatric Care Associates and established her own private practice, Midwest Consultants for Cognitive Medicine, in Gurnee, IL. She moved to Abu Dhabi in 2017 with the goal of establishing the highest standard of neuropsychological services in the UAE, serving as the Head of Neuropsychology for the American Center for Psychiatry & Neurology. She later worked for a specialized program in Dubai whose elite clientele included royalty, international business leaders, and world-class athletes. Dr. Ammar returned to private practice in the USA in 2022. Her services are directed towards the examination of cognitive changes in clients with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, cerebrovascular and degenerative disease, and some psychiatric conditions. Education/ Research/ Presentations Dr. Ammar holds faculty affiliation as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the UIC College of Medicine. She was previously an Adjunct Professor at Loyola University Chicago, engaged in the training of externs/interns at UIC and the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, and was an annual guest lecturer for Psychology residents at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. She has published research on traumatic brain injuries, electrical injuries, PTSD and factors related to conducting clinical research on neuropsychiatric disorders in the MENA region. She has served as an IRB Ethics Committee Co-Chairperson and was the founder/ co-chairperson of the UAE’s chapter of the International Neuropsychological Society’s Global Engagement Committee. She is a frequently invited presenter and expert panelist on mental health topics. |
